Pompey Legend joins coaching staff

Pompey legend Guy Whittingham has become the newest member of the Pompey coaching staff.

Whittingham will be responsible for pulling together the gap between the Academy, the reserves and the first team.

Guy scored 115 goals in 223 appearances for Pompey, and has now officially been named Pompey's development coach.

The ex-Pompey player has spent the last six-and-a-half years working as a PFA coach educator, but has now decided to take the step up to becoming a first team coach.

The Pompey Pages welcomes the return of the legend, and hopes his influence will be great success to everyone at Pompey.

O'Neil bid turned down!

A bid for former Pompey player Gary O'Neil has been turned down by Middlesborough.

Boro boss Gareth Southgate turned down the £4.5m bid from Pompey for the midfielder.
O'Neil came through the ranks at Pompey and featured in 192 appearances for the Blues.

Even though it is rumoured that Gary is in favour of a move back to Fratton Park, Adams and Storrie are yet to strike a deal with the Riverside club.

O'Neil left Pompey in August 2007 to play for Boro, but in a short time at Middlesborough, O'Neil is home sick and wants a return to the Blues.

In other transfer news, rumours continue of a move for Edu, as well as O'Neil, and the first rumour of a return to Fratton Park for Benjani to replace Defoe.

Possible Pompey Transfers

PLAYERS IN:

Stefan Strandberg
The Sun has reported today that Stefan could be on his way to Fratton Park

Christian Obodo
The defensive midfielder from Udinese could be Adams' replacement for Diarra

Gary O'Neil
The ex-Pompey midfielder could make a return to Fratton Park with Pompey struggling on the right side of midfield after rumoured to have put in a transfer request.

Jimmy Bullard
The England international has been linked with the Blues as well

Edu
The ex-Arsenal player could make a return to the Premiership through a move to Fratton Park

PLAYERS OUT:

Jermain Defoe
The England striker is on the brink of a return to Spurs linking back up with Redknapp for a fee of around £15m

Lassana Diarra
Diarra has made £20m move to Real Madrid following an 18-month spell at Pompey

Glen Johnson
The England right-back has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane but Adams is hopeful that Johnson will renew his contract this week, ruling out a move in January.

Papa Bouba Diop
Bouba Diop has been linked with a move to Newcastle, but Diop's recently announced three month injury will fend off the Magpies to allow the Senegalese midfielder to stay down South.

THE POMPEY PAGES recommended transfers:

Benjani
Although City may be reluctant to let the ex-Pompey striker go, Benjani would be the best possible signing in my eyes. Benjani score a bag full of goals for us last season, and always worked hard, unlike Defoe.

Jermaine Pennant
The Liverpool winger has been disrupted this season, and with several clubs interested, I think we could get the funds from Defoe and Diarra's sales to pick up the winger.

Jermain Defoe joins Judas

Pompey striker Jermain Defoe has joined ex-Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspurs after a constant stream on rumours linking the pair back together since Redknapp's departure.

The Portsmouth Official Website have confirmed that the Blues have accepted a bid from Spurs for Defoe, who is currently undertaking a medical at White Hart Lane.

A figure is yet to be disclosed for the England striker, with the move coming just 12 months after signing him from Spurs in the same transfer window the previous year.

Hopefully Tony Adams will use the money wisely and buy someone better than Redknapp's waste of £6m David Nugent.

After Defoe's move I am really debating whether getting rid of Benjani for Defoe was a good idea, Benjani is a top quality striker and scores loads of goals if you give him the support, the kind of support we can give players.

Bring back Benjani Mr Adams, he will save us!

As for Defoe I wish him the best of luck for the future but don't be scoring any goals against us this month.

Pompey Pages Return!

Sorry about the lack of posts over X-mas I have had a break over the holiday but will be starting posts again from this time.

Some of the events that have happened during the break, has included Pompey's poor run of form including a 4-1 loss at Fratton Park against West Ham, and drawing the FA Cup tie with Bristol City 0-0 at Fratton Park to force a replay.

There have been many transfer rumours involving Pompey players, notably Jermain Defoe to Spurs which is likely to become a set deal, Johnson and James are also rumoured to sign for Spurs as well. The poaching Harry Redknapp seems to be stealing our targets as well by looking to sign Stephen Appiah.

Sean Davis is set to sign a new deal, as well as Richard Hughes and Glen Johnson - maybe that will seat out moves to Spurs.

Bouba Diop is out for three months will an injury.

Tony Adams' job is supposedly under threat due to Pompey's poor form.

Nadir Belhadj has signed his much awaited permanent contract from Lens.

I think that about sums up the break in THE POMPEY PAGES, but posts will start again so keep an eye on posts.
