O'Hara committed to the Pompey fight

Portsmouth's on-loan midfielder Jamie O'Hara has committed himself to Pompey's relegation battle.

The 23-year old is on loan til January, but is keen to stay at Fratton Park for the rest of the season if Spurs don't need his services.

O'Hara has scored twice for the Blues this season and is determined to carry on fighting for the Fratton Park outfit to keep them up.

He said: 'I'm enjoying my football and I'm playing every week. That's all I can ask for," O'Hara told The News.

'Maybe, I was disappointed with the performance at Blackburn but I'm enjoying it.

'All I want to do as a footballer in the Premier League is play football.

'I say to myself, 'how would it look to the Pompey fans if I left in January?'

'They travel away and come to every game and we're fighting for every point.

'Then come January I pack up and go back to Tottenham, and I'm back in the comfort zone.

'How does it look to them? Maybe it looks like I've walked away from a fight.

'I'm not that type of person. I want to be there for the team and the club. I want to help us get out of trouble.'

African Cup of Nations to sink Pompey's battleship?

As many know, the African Cup of Nations has come around once again this coming January, and once again the cup will be a big strain on Pompey's squad.

Club captain Aaron Mokoena won't be travelling for the competition after South Africa failed to qualify, but Pompey will be losing the likes of Nwankwo Kanu and John Utaka to Nigeria, Hassan Yedba and Nadir Belhadj to Algeria, Aruna Dindane to Ivory Coast, and the possibility of Kevin-Prince Boateng to Ghana if he gets called up.

Although Boateng is German, he has dual citizenship, making him eligible for the competition if Ghana decided to call him up, and Boateng accepts.

Portsmouth manager Paul Hart believes the back-bone of the side will be travelling to Africa for the tournament and could miss some vital games ahead of the Blues' relegation scrap and could affect the January transfer window.

'I brought it to people’s notice a month ago, because it will take the spine out of the team and could be a difficult situation.

'I think Boateng wants to play for Ghana, so I couldn’t stand in his way.

'We have priorities for January if we do anything in the transfer market.

'But who is to say that January is a good time to buy players anyway? Historically it’s not.

'I’m not so sure it is the best time, so it is not as simple as just getting a load of money and splashing it.

'Who is going to let their best players go in January, so what do you actually end up getting?”

The competition runs from 10th-31st January and will mean players who progress further through the competition will miss home games against Birmingham City and West Ham, and away games against Manchester City and Fulham.

Dindane named in Ivory Coast squad

Portsmouth striker Aruna Dindane was named in the Ivory Coast squad today following his on-form performances for the Blues this month.

Dindane netted a hat-rick against Wigan to open his Premier League account a week ago, with Pompey fans expecting more goals from Didier Drogba's international strike partner.

The striker was taken off in the 58th minute at the weekend, but seems to be fighting fit again and ready to boost Pompey up the table.

In other international news, David James has been left out of the England squad and the two Algerians Hassan Yebda and Nadir Belhadj are both expected to be called up for their final World Cup qualifier against Egypt on Saturday, although Yebda picked up a calf injury during the Blackburn game at the weekend and may cast doubts.

England coach Fabio Capello left Jamo out of his preliminary squad to face Brazil after stating 'He's playing well but his problem is he can't train for two days after each game so it's one problem we have to decide.'

Pompey not completely to blame for losses

Although I know we should be blaming ourselves for the losses and poor results so far this season, but it seems that many good performances have come out of some of the games and I just thought it would be interesting to touch on the some of the events or matches that could've changed our season so far.

Portsmouth 0 Fulham 1 - Only goal of the game comes after Clint Dempsey's shot was severely deflected off Bobby Zamora as it beat David James, sending him the wrong way.

Birmingham City 1 Portsmouth 0 - Penalty that was very debatable as David James goes in for the 50/50 challenge looking at nothing but the ball - Penalty scored in 92nd minute.

Arsenal 4 Portsmouth 1 - William Gallas should've been sent off for a foul on John Utaka, who was through on goal and the last man, and then to make things worse scores a third goal for Arsenal against the back-foot as Portsmouth were fighting back.

Portsmouth 0 Manchester City 1 - With Pompey coming close and pushing for an equaliser against City, David Nugent fires straight at Shay Given when through on goal, should've scored that!

Portsmouth 1 Spurs 2 - Pompey rule all over Spurs and Redknapp, as Defoe sees himself sent off Portsmouth fire 19 shots towards Spurs goal with only 7 in reply from Spurs, Gomes is on form and the Blues are unlucky not to see all three points.

Blackburn Rovers 3 Portsmouth 1

Pompey go 1-0 up at half-time and then concede three goals from three set-pieces in a poor show of defending, although Pascal Chimbonda should've been sent off just before half-time after a scuffle with Jamie O'Hara - might have changed the game.

Jamie O'Hara hits out

Pompey's influential on-loan midfielder Jamie O'Hara believes Pompey 'shot themselves in the foot' on Saturday after throwing away a 1-0 half-time lead against Blackburn.

The Blues went 1-0 up thanks to O'Hara's brilliance that has been shown all season, and many believe that the player on-loan from Spurs, is key to Pompey's survival fight this season, but Jamie reckons the Fratton Park outfit need to turn things around quickly to win the fight.

O'Hara told the News: 'We started well and got a goal in front – that is what we wanted. And we looked comfortable.

'The fans were getting frustrated and at half-time we just said, "Come on lads, let's just keep it tight". But it didn't happen for us in the second half.

'You come away from home against Blackburn and it is hard enough without shooting yourself in the foot by conceding three goals from set-pieces.

'Okay, they brought on Roberts at half-time and that changed things. The fans got behind them.

'But it was pretty shocking to concede three goals from set-pieces.

'I haven't seen whose mistakes they were, but we have got an experienced team full of players who have played at international level.

'We have got to be able to do better. When you are at the bottom, you have got to be able to do better than that.'

The Blues conceded three goals from three set pieces in the second half, but with a two-week international break, the Blues have a lot to think about for the visit to Stoke City on the 22nd November.

Primus, a living Pompey legend!

Jimmy Dickinson, Aaron Flahavan, and Alan Knight are all recognised as Pompey legends with their place in the club's history secured.

But there is one current player who can be added to that illustrious
list.

Linvoy Primus is not recognised by many outside Portsmouth, but the
defender's bravery, desire and affinity with the south coast club have
made him an idol at Fratton Park.

His strong Christian faith and ability to win over the doubters have
made him a firm favourite in the city.

And it's his refusal to accept defeat which means relegation for the
Blues isn't part of Primus' thoughts.

Primus said: “I think we’ll be ok. In the last four of five performances we’ve taken some good points, but unfortunately there have been a few games where we’ve conceded in the last minutes. If we can string together some more wins we’ll be well clear.”

Primus has been hailed as one of Pompey’s best and most committed players in recent history, having been at Fratton Park since summer 2000, and with a 10th year testimonial match in sight, both Pompey and Primus are very keen to secure an extra year on his contract to see this out.

Portsmouth Chief Executive Peter Storrie said: “If anybody deserves a
testimonial it’s Linvoy. He needs to do one year next season and two months, so we're talking about giving him another year. But whether that will do him we'll have to wait and see. We'll have to maybe give a year's contract and then a month-to-month contract.”

This is the thought of the majority if not all of the Pompey fans, who have seen Primus grow from a hard-working Division One player to an experienced top-quality Premier League centre-back.

But Primus’ career didn’t start very well at Pompey. After securing a free transfer from Reading to Portsmouth, he made his first appearance against Sheffield United in the old Division One, and started by putting the ball in the Pompey net for an own goal.

Things didn’t carry on too well for Primus, as he was forced out for six months through injury only a couple of months after making his debut. When Primus returned from injury, he had to prove to new manager Graham Rix, that he was committed and had the talent to help Portsmouth turn things around.

With the appointment of Harry Redknapp in March 2002, Primus found a new lease of life, as he proved to the manager that he was not only a decent Division One player, but that he could compete in the Premier League.

Primus was a key player in Pompey’s promotion to the Premier League in 2002/03, and his turn around in luck, according to him, was his discovery of Christianity.

“I really believe that everything I have done since becoming a Christian has been for God. I want to give him glory, because he’s given me talent and skill and even though it’s not as good as the best players in the world, I just
want to give it to him to use so that his name is glorified.”

Since becoming a committed Christian, Primus has set up the charity Faith and Football, and has run many fundraising events to help establish this.

Primus’ latest project, after a very successful walk of the Great Wall of China back in 2005, is the Pedal for Primus project, along with the Team Golf Classic.

Primus, who is very keen to keep people active through these charity events said: “We’ve got something coming up in September called Pedal for Primus, and it’s just going to be cycling 160 miles over three days to different clubs on the south-coast, and then ending back up at Portsmouth. We did a similar one last year with all the clubs I’ve played for, so we’ve had lots of different things going on.”

The English centre-back saw himself left out of the side during the early Premier League campaign after Redknapp reverted to a 4-4-2 system, despite Primus picking up seven different Player of the Year awards in Pompey’s promotion season. Redknapp’s new formation change came following the signing of Dejan Stefanovic to partner Arjan De Zeeuw at centre-back. This left Primus out of the previous 3-5-2 system.

After chopping and changing a number of managers, and after Redknapp infamously left to Portsmouth’s down-the-road rivals, Primus established himself back in the side under French manager Alain Perrin, who gave Primus the chance to prove his worth, and that he was more than capable of keeping Portsmouth in the Premier League.

Primus, who has made 209 appearances for Pompey to date through nearly
nine years at the club, scored his first Premier League goal against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day 2004, before scoring two more on Boxing Day 2006 against West Ham United.

With the return of Harry Redknapp to Fratton Park, Primus once again became a regular and did a splendid job helping Pompey steer away from relegation in 2005/06 before partnering Sol Campbell in defence the season after – a partnership that saw Primus gain in experience and hold his own next to the Portsmouth captain. It was up to this date where Primus was recognised for his solid performances.

Whether he was starting week-in week-out, or was dropped and brought back when someone was injured, Primus never moaned and got on with the job and always gave 110%. His work-rate was second to none, and saw him going in for everything and never giving up.

A similar attitude to many of the players during the relegation-fighting era in the Premier League for Pompey that has seen them stay up and establish themselves as a top-flight club.

Whether Primus got the credit he deserved from fans outside of Pompey is yet to be seen, but the Portsmouth fans certainly appreciate it, and the Pompey “legend” recognises the Fratton Faithful’s huge support for the player.

He said: “My relationship with the fans has helped not just on the football pitch, but with the charity that I started here. So that gives me a lot of satisfaction and joy to know that it’s not just football it’s a round thing. I appreciate how the fans are with me and I just want to keep giving them my all!”

Linvoy once again saw a large setback after a career threatening knee injury and missed 2007/08 season. There were many worries that the solid centre-back wouldn’t return to play football, but with commitment, determination and the belief of help from God, he got through it and returned to full fitness thanks to the help of specialist surgeon Dr. Richard Steadman. A surgeon who has also worked wonders with the likes of Alan Shearer and many other Premier League players.

After returning from injury this season, Primus returned to Charlton Athletic, the club where he briefly started his career, making 10 appearances for Phil Parkinson’s side before returning to Pompey and working his way up back through from the reserves at Christmas.

Linvoy said: “My main aim now is really just to play as many games as possible and just wait for my chance. I’ve been in positions like this before and I know that if I’m on top of my game, wherever I play, then I’ve got a chance to get back into the first team.”

Primus’ hard work and commitment hasn’t stopped there though, after returning to Pompey from his loan spell at Charlton, Primus has become determined to help out the young academy players coming through the ranks, playing in the reserves.

“I’m playing with these young players who look to me to lead and to be the voice of the team and that’s what I’ve tried to do. Hopefully the chance will come, but if not I’m just going to enjoy playing and trying to help out this group.”

In May 2008 as we all remember, Portsmouth beat West Brom in the FA Cup final to lift the trophy for the first time since 1939, and although Primus didn’t feature at all for Pompey last season, when the gentle giant lifted the trophy to celebrate, he got the biggest roar out of all the players and staff, as the fans showed their appreciation to Primus’ hard work and commitment.

Primus has also been labelled as one of the nicest guys at Portsmouth, and anyone who has met him in and around the city would surely agree.

With a smile on his face, and the support of the Pompey fans, Primus will be looking forward to what may be his last couple of seasons playing football, but not his last few years at Portsmouth.

Primus said: “As football comes to an end I believe that there is more to come with life after football with Portsmouth, with the charity. I’m really excited about the next part of my life, and I believe the next part is going to be just as good if not better than playing football.”

The idea of a job somewhere in the set-up excites both parties, and could see Primus extending his stay at Pompey. Peter Storrie added: “I think we need to do something. Whether Linvoy could act as an ambassador or whatever it takes to be involved in the club. I think he would be ideal for that role."

Although it would appear he has a role at the club after he retires, Linvoy doesn’t think he’s quite finished yet. “When I know in my heart that I’m ready then I’ll stop, but I’m not going to put a number on it,” said Primus.

'Crouch' Tiger Hidden Problems

Peter Crouch has recently come out stating that he has been let down by Pompey over the last season, by getting rid of various players and managers, getting knocked out of Europe, and had to fight hard to avoid relegation.

Crouch claimed that he wanted more from a club he was playing at, saying: "There are 15 players out of contract at the end of the season - no one knows who the manager is, we don't even know who the owner is to be honest. So anyone who is at the club wants reassurances about what is going to happen in the summer," the England striker said in the News of the World.

"And I'll certainly be asking. I need to find out."

Crouch added: "I'm really disappointed to be honest. We had Harry Redknapp, Jermain Defoe and Lassana Diarra were there, we were in Europe and there were ambitions for the club really going forward. Instead it has taken a backward step.

"I've got to look at it in the summer. We need some players, without a doubt.

"That's plain for everyone to see. Everybody who is a Portsmouth player wants to find out what is going on. Hopefully, things can turn around with prospective new owners. We need to strengthen the side. But I've no idea about the new owners."

Crouch admitted his hopes of playing for England at next year's World Cup depended on him having a successful domestic season, although he's played all season for Pompey and scored a fair amount of goals, and still hasn't featured loads?

He said: "If I'm going to have a chance of playing for England, I need to be playing well.

"What I don't need is to be fighting relegation."

Storrie told BBC Radio Solent: "Anybody in their right mind knows we're in due diligence.

"That means the club are technically in limbo for a month."

Storrie continued: "I'm surprised. I think Peter must have been caught off guard on these sort of comments. I'm sure if I speak to Peter he will tell me he didn't actually say it that way.

"It's very disappointing, but anybody and everybody who knows anything about the takeover of a business knows there's nothing you can do for a month whilst this is all going on."

I hope that for once in his life, Storrie is right, and Crouch didn't mean it to sound like that, because in and around Fratton Park, Crouchy has been a genuinely nice guy, worked hard, and scored us goals.

Do we really want to see him leave? I have heard people say on BBC606 forums that Jamie's Dad could offer a swap of Bent for Crouch, but would you take it? I'm not sure. We'd still need to bring in another striker on top of him.

Still backs up the fact that Redknapp is still after a load of Pompey players or ex-Pompey players for Spurs - Muntari, Diarra, Crouch, Johnson, James, whilst he already has Defoe.
At least Johnson will most likely go to Liverpool or Chelsea, even though I'm still hoping he doesn't go.

James most likely won't go, probably because of his age, and Muntari and Diarra won't want to move from two of the biggest clubs in the world, (Inter and Real Madrid) to play under Redknapp at a dodgy London club, who can only get a mid-table finish and no realistic European ambitions.

Kranjcar has also committed his future to Portsmouth, as all speculation surrounding his move has been very quiet now.

"He's Big, He's Blue, He Scores With Abbey Too. PETER CROUCH, PETER CROUCH"
Let's hope we'll still be hearing that next season.

New Pompey Home Shirt? Are You Kidding?

Well supposedly, here is the new Portsmouth 09/10 home shirt!
Is it bollocks! This shirt is just the current home shirt with a new 'photo-shopped' sponsor and colouring this seasons gold areas on the shirt in to white areas.
This picture has been rotated around the Internet for a few months now, and has been the worst looking version of our new shirt. I'm expecting a new sponsor to replace OKI so the below shirts won't be an option. Most likely a sponsor linked to the great 'Doctor' if his takeover is completed.

Here are a few others that haven't been seen as much - leave some comments on your thoughts on these.

Well I'm not sure about any of those, I have seen another one which includes a red bit on top of the traditional blue, but can't find the image.
Here are some key dates that Pompey have released for details on the new kit.
June - Home kit revealed
July - Home kit comes out
August - Away kit comes out
September -Third kit comes out

Coppell to become next Pompey manager?

After failing to secure promotion for Reading last night after losing out in the play-offs, Steve Coppell stepped down from the manager's seat at Reading, creating a perfect manager for Pompey next season.

Coppell did a superb job with Reading in the Premier League, and although he may not have too much experience in the department of where we want to be heading (up the Premier League table), he may be able to get the best out of a low budget squad, with funds low at Pompey at the moment.

Although Coppell once left Burnley for not having enough funds, the main backing of a squad is already at the club, providing they are willing to stay at Fratton Park next season.

Crouch, Johnson, Kranjcar, although all being linked with a move away, are rated as the backbone to Pompey's squad, and Steve Coppell would relish at the opportunity to play with these players.

Rumours have circled that Peter Storrie is on his way to Reading this morning, but whether he'll be latched up yet is another thing, is Hart the right man for next season, or should we capture Coppell.

Whatever happens I think Brian Kidd needs to stay as Assistant Manager because of his experience at top clubs!

Pennant - Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Portsmouth's on-loan winger Jermaine Pennant will be return to Liverpool when his contract runs out at the end of the season, but will he be staying at Liverpool?

Pennant is also out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season, and is yet to be offered a new deal. But can we tempt him to stay at Pompey?

Despite him not starting all the time and the position we have been in, fighting for relegation, he may like to stay at Fratton Park, because he now knows the staff, knows some of the players, and will always get a good reaction from the Fratton Faithful.

I'm not sure how high his wages will be, but if we can keep Johnson as well, a right side of Johnson and Pennant would be a killer for crossing balls in for Crouch, as long as we can find the big man a strike partner.

Pennant's old club Birmingham City have also been promoted to the Premiership through the automatic promotion places, so that would also be an option for him.

I personally think he won't stay at Liverpool, or if they will even offer him a new contract, because of the lack of appearances, but whether we can tempt him to Fratton Park or not is a different issue.

Nlundulu to sign professional contract?

Portsmouth's young French ace Gael Nlundulu is set to sign a professional contract at Pompey following a great season for the player.

Nlundulu signed from Paris Saint-Germain last summer and also was a regular for the French U-17 outfit before turning 18 this year.

Although many Pompey fans may have not seen the young gun play, I was fortunate to see him play for Portsmouth reserves against Stoke back in March, and was very impressed, and he teared up the Stoke defence, including Andy Griffin.

He looks like a great player for the future, and along with Pele who I hear is a great asset for the future, along with Torric Jibril.

The rumours within the French press claim that Gael has signed a contract until 2011, and I would personally like to see him feature in the first team.

If John Utaka can make the first team, take the ball round the keeper and miss the open goal in two successive games, and miss a penalty as badly as he did on Saturday, then I think Nlundulu should definitely be given the chance.

Kranjcar committed

The news that Niko Kranjcar is up for the fight to keep us in the Premier League, and is committed to Pompey if we keep our Premier League status is absolutely superb.

There were a lot of worries surrounding Niko moving in the summer.

Rumours of a move to Panathinaikos, Arsenal, Spuds, and a few more, but Niko has in fact come out saying that he hasn't been approached by anyone yet, he is not fussed about Panathinaikos, and is entirely committed to playing for Pompey as long as they are in the Premiership.

He also believes that we will definitely stay in the Prem, and doesn't think it is a worry at all!

Although we could probably make a nice little profit from selling Niko in the summer, I think he is a great acquisition in our midfield, and if we can build up this midfield around Niko and Sean (Davis), as well as introducing a new attacker to the picture in the summer, then we can once again, be challenging for a place in Europe.

"What's that coming over the hill?
  It's Niko Kranjcar
  It's Niko Kranjcar!"

Kazim-Richards to Fratton Park?

Today's hot gossip for transfer news lies in the form of Colin Kazim-Richards, formally of Sheffield United, currently playing for Fenerbahce.

Pompey are reportedly ready to make a £3m bid for the striker, to fill the boots of Jermain Defoe after he moved to Spuds in the summer.

The 22-year old is thought to be on the books at Hull City as well as Pompey, so a fight for his signature may be on when the transfer window opens.

The London-born star has been playing in the UEFA Champions League for Fenerbahce this season, but is dying to get back in the Premier League, and Pompey could be his route!

Reduced transfer profit to make settlement

Pompey are rumored to reduce the amount Manchester City have to pay for Benjani, so that the club's current debt can be paid during the summer.

The Blues were paid an initial £4m up front for the Zimbabwean striker, with the rest due when Benj makes a certain amount of appearances. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we're trying to get the money up front from City, and therefore are asking for a lesser amount.

It is also rumored that a similar deal is being done with Lassana Diarra's move to Real Madrid - worth £19m, and Jermain Defoe's move to Spuds.

I for one would like to see Benjani back at Pompey, and maybe canceling out this debt could see him returning?

Not attacking enough? Pompey 2 West Brom 2

Although a point isn't all that bad with four points between us and the relegation zone - providing Stoke beat Newcastle this afternoon.

With 10-15 minutes to go we were trying so hard to score and get that all crucial winner which may have seen us not be so nervous in the last remaining fixtures, but Hart refused to stick on that much needed second striker on until injury time.

I think Hart and Kidd have done a tremendous job, and especially with tightening up our defence, but we needed that goal so much, and with Kanu, Utaka and Gekas all on the bench, why did Hart wait until the last two minutes of injury time to stick him on?

I think Theofanis Gekas could have sneaked that crucial goal, with the Macheda affect from United's win against Villa and Sunderland! He had a good bit of support after he came on, and would definitely be buzzing after making a first but small appearance in the Premier League.

What is the point in getting the guy on loan until the end of the season and not play him. Yes admittedly it was Tony Adams who brought him in, but he's there to be used.

Let's just focus on Bolton next week, another home game which we should win, even though they just put Chelsea to a very close 4-3 drilling after being 4-0 down.

Taylor and O'Brien returning to Fratton Park, will surely have a big influence, although you have to feel they are out of the relegation running, so may not be going all out, with Pompey welcoming the returns of Glen Johnson and Super Sean Davis!

Well at least we're not four points off safety in the Championship with administration worries and a board that can't stop chickening out of the problems!

I for one, am looking forward to seeing these 'goal of the season' style goals on Match Of the Day tonight, seen as I couldn't make it down to Fortress Fratton this weekend.

No appeal for two yellow card - Glen Johnson - West Brom - Injuries

I think it is ridiculous the fact that after Glen Johnson's two yellow cards against Hull last weekend, we cannot appeal against him being banned for the home game against West Brom at the weekend!

Johnson didn't deserve one let alone two yellow cards last weekend. The second yellow, Johno tried to pull out and had no intent to hurt the player at all!

A FIFA representative has even come out this week saying that it is a stupid rule and needs to be looked at.

Missing Glen against West Brom could be crucial to the result - although I'm guessing we're all thinking we should be able to bury the Baggies easy enough when we're at home!

Sean Davis is also missing the game due to his injury, but we're hoping he'll be back by next week's game against Bolton - seeing the return of the all mighty Matt Taylor.

Peter Crouch has also dropped out of the top 5 Premier League goalscorers this week, so hopefully a couple from the big man will see him get back up there where he belongs - above Defoe!

We played well against West Brom when we played them away, but we'd just returned from Wolfsburg. The atmosphere was poor from both sides, and the side were obviously gutted about the events of what happened in Germany, so putting that aside lets give West Brom a hammering when they visit Fortress Fratton on Saturday.

In terms of the following fixtures, we have a good run-in, and should be looking good for staying up. Providing we beat West Brom today, they're done and dusted. Middlesborough are going to really struggle to get back out of the relegation zone, and then I reckon it will be a massive toss up between Sunderland, Hull, Newcastle, Blackburn and maybe us.

Offer this man a new contract....

He has been my Man of the Match on more than one occasion this season and for me has been by far Pompey's player of the season. Yet he has still not signed a new contract.

Sean Davis' contract runs out in the summer, and the board have been negotiating with Sean for the last 15 months to keep him at Fratton Park, but it seems impossible to tie up a deal between the two.

Sean has been quoted this week as saying that he came here and stayed here because of Jamie's Dad, although I thought we worked best under the short period with Tony Adams. Neither are now at the club, and he is still playing brilliantly.

I hope that he does sign a new deal, and I believe he may want to stay at Pompey as he turned down a move from Bolton in the January transfer window - even though we didn't want him to leave.

Even if he is thinking about moving on, his dedication and hard work for Pompey has been outstanding and I guarantee it that he will carry this on until the end of the season, whether he signs a new deal or not.

But I urge Paul Hart, Peter Storrie, or whoever comes in as the new manager so sign this fella up, keep him at Fratton Park, because despite the millions we have spent on Crouch, Defoe, Nugent, Utaka, he is by far the best.

Pompey v Stoke preview

Pompey travel up to Stoke on Saturday to face the Midlands side who only having been promoted this season, are looking likely to go back down to the Championship.

Pompey and Stoke have little history - mostly to do with Stoke's old firm the "Norty Forty" being established at a meeting between the two teams at Fratton Park, but the point that we must notice about Stoke is this connections with the good and bad sides of the South coast.

Tony Pulis - ex-Pompey manager
Andy Griffin - ex-Pompey player
Amdy Faye - ex-Pompey player
Salif Diao - ex-Pompey player
Vincent Pericard - ex-Pompey player
Ricardo Fuller - ex-Pompey and Scummer player
Danny Higginbotham - Scummer
Rory Delap - Scummer
Henri Camara - Scummer
James Beattie - Scummer

9 ex-South coast players and a former manager is quite a lot, and I thought we had a few Liverpool ones!

Pompey fans are looking for a second win on the trot under caretaker manager Paul Hart with his new found partnership alongside Brian Kidd. The two were praised by the fans at Fratton Park last Saturday after a 2-0 win against Manchester City, and another win would surely see Hart/Kidd become a full-time partnership until the end of the season.

Stoke have not made it easy for travellers to Britannia Stadium, having gotten points out of Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City, Spuds, Villa, Hull, West Brom and Sunderland. Leading to many Stoke fans claiming the Brit to be 'a fortress' something which we all know about from Fortress Fratton, that has been stormed way too many times this season.

Tony Pulis will not make it easy for the Blues, but being described as a 'six-pointer' on Saturday will surely make it a tough game for both sides.

Stoke have seen their trademark throws by Delap result in goals many a time this season, although the height and quality in the Pompey defence are likely to be on top of things to make sure Pompey keep another clean sheet. With Delap and Fuller out, the throws may not be a problem for the Blues.

Pompey beat Stoke 2-1 earlier on in the season during the fixture at Fratton Park, with Crouch getting that memorable bicycle kick goal.

Pompey Pages Prediction: Another 2-1 to Pompey, although Stoke are strong at home, I believe we have enough quality, determination and strength to overcome the Potters and head back with all three points.

Player to watch: James Beattie - we all despise the player for his past and Scummer connections, but it can't be ignored of his quality and goalscoring ability, and because of the stick he is likely to get on Saturday, I can sadly see him netting for Stoke - it's fate.

Key Pompey player: Jermaine Pennant - Pennant has got the pace and flair to attack the Stoke defence from the wing and give some good delivery in to Crouch and Nugent, and I think his abilities will make a big difference against Stoke.

Likely Portsmouth XI: James, Johnson, Campbell, Distin, Hreidarsson, Pennant, Davis, Basinas, Kranjcar, Nugent, Crouch

Hart to stay at Fratton Park

There are a lot of rumours flying around at the moment claiming new managers and owners linked with Pompey, but are we overlooking a hard-working duo already at the reigns at Fratton Park?

Paul Hart and Brian Kidd, although only tested once (against Man City), have shown a lot of quality with a turn around of the team in the 2-0 win on Saturday.

Yes, I guess they have only been in for one game, but look how much that game has boosted the confidence of the players, fans and everyone else at the club.

I have even heard of people talking about expecting a 10th place finish. This is crazy, seen as only weeks ago a lot of people had already written us off for going down.

Maybe Hart and Kidd could be very successful for Pompey, but we'll only see with time, and even though it is a similar risk we took with Tony Adams, they have a lot more experience than TA.

I believe that if we go to Stoke on Saturday and pick up a win, then most people will look to keep Hart until at least the end of the season, similar to the Chelsea-Hiddink deal, and then look on in the summer with a new owner and manager to improving things in the 09/10 season.

Hart/Kidd have my full support and I hope they carry on racking up the points for us, because as we all know, we definitely have the best squad by far, of all the relegation battlers.

Pennant for Pompey

It was a nail biting tie with Bristol City on Tuesday night, that saw us clinch the game through David James' superb performance following some great instinct saves and a penalty save, and Crouch handball it in Pompey's penalty area before going up and scoring the other end, but oh well it's about time we got some good luck.

And it seems that the start of our good fortunes is set to arrive in the form of Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant.

Pompey have had a bid for the winger accepted by Liverpool, thought to be in the region of £2million. The speedster has had been subject to interest from top clubs such as Real Madrid and AC Milan, but it seems that Pompey have won the race after the Pompey official site has confirmed that Pompey are to hold person talks with the ex-Birmingham and Arsenal midfielder.

Pennant is exactly what Pompey need at the moment. A bit of pace on the right-side of midfield to match Traore and Belhadj's pace and work ethic.

Hopefully the deal will be completed before the weekend so we can murder Spurs with our pacey new winger.

Pompey Legend joins coaching staff

Pompey legend Guy Whittingham has become the newest member of the Pompey coaching staff.

Whittingham will be responsible for pulling together the gap between the Academy, the reserves and the first team.

Guy scored 115 goals in 223 appearances for Pompey, and has now officially been named Pompey's development coach.

The ex-Pompey player has spent the last six-and-a-half years working as a PFA coach educator, but has now decided to take the step up to becoming a first team coach.

The Pompey Pages welcomes the return of the legend, and hopes his influence will be great success to everyone at Pompey.

O'Neil bid turned down!

A bid for former Pompey player Gary O'Neil has been turned down by Middlesborough.

Boro boss Gareth Southgate turned down the £4.5m bid from Pompey for the midfielder.
O'Neil came through the ranks at Pompey and featured in 192 appearances for the Blues.

Even though it is rumoured that Gary is in favour of a move back to Fratton Park, Adams and Storrie are yet to strike a deal with the Riverside club.

O'Neil left Pompey in August 2007 to play for Boro, but in a short time at Middlesborough, O'Neil is home sick and wants a return to the Blues.

In other transfer news, rumours continue of a move for Edu, as well as O'Neil, and the first rumour of a return to Fratton Park for Benjani to replace Defoe.

Possible Pompey Transfers

PLAYERS IN:

Stefan Strandberg
The Sun has reported today that Stefan could be on his way to Fratton Park

Christian Obodo
The defensive midfielder from Udinese could be Adams' replacement for Diarra

Gary O'Neil
The ex-Pompey midfielder could make a return to Fratton Park with Pompey struggling on the right side of midfield after rumoured to have put in a transfer request.

Jimmy Bullard
The England international has been linked with the Blues as well

Edu
The ex-Arsenal player could make a return to the Premiership through a move to Fratton Park

PLAYERS OUT:

Jermain Defoe
The England striker is on the brink of a return to Spurs linking back up with Redknapp for a fee of around £15m

Lassana Diarra
Diarra has made £20m move to Real Madrid following an 18-month spell at Pompey

Glen Johnson
The England right-back has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane but Adams is hopeful that Johnson will renew his contract this week, ruling out a move in January.

Papa Bouba Diop
Bouba Diop has been linked with a move to Newcastle, but Diop's recently announced three month injury will fend off the Magpies to allow the Senegalese midfielder to stay down South.

THE POMPEY PAGES recommended transfers:

Benjani
Although City may be reluctant to let the ex-Pompey striker go, Benjani would be the best possible signing in my eyes. Benjani score a bag full of goals for us last season, and always worked hard, unlike Defoe.

Jermaine Pennant
The Liverpool winger has been disrupted this season, and with several clubs interested, I think we could get the funds from Defoe and Diarra's sales to pick up the winger.

Jermain Defoe joins Judas

Pompey striker Jermain Defoe has joined ex-Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspurs after a constant stream on rumours linking the pair back together since Redknapp's departure.

The Portsmouth Official Website have confirmed that the Blues have accepted a bid from Spurs for Defoe, who is currently undertaking a medical at White Hart Lane.

A figure is yet to be disclosed for the England striker, with the move coming just 12 months after signing him from Spurs in the same transfer window the previous year.

Hopefully Tony Adams will use the money wisely and buy someone better than Redknapp's waste of £6m David Nugent.

After Defoe's move I am really debating whether getting rid of Benjani for Defoe was a good idea, Benjani is a top quality striker and scores loads of goals if you give him the support, the kind of support we can give players.

Bring back Benjani Mr Adams, he will save us!

As for Defoe I wish him the best of luck for the future but don't be scoring any goals against us this month.

Pompey Pages Return!

Sorry about the lack of posts over X-mas I have had a break over the holiday but will be starting posts again from this time.

Some of the events that have happened during the break, has included Pompey's poor run of form including a 4-1 loss at Fratton Park against West Ham, and drawing the FA Cup tie with Bristol City 0-0 at Fratton Park to force a replay.

There have been many transfer rumours involving Pompey players, notably Jermain Defoe to Spurs which is likely to become a set deal, Johnson and James are also rumoured to sign for Spurs as well. The poaching Harry Redknapp seems to be stealing our targets as well by looking to sign Stephen Appiah.

Sean Davis is set to sign a new deal, as well as Richard Hughes and Glen Johnson - maybe that will seat out moves to Spurs.

Bouba Diop is out for three months will an injury.

Tony Adams' job is supposedly under threat due to Pompey's poor form.

Nadir Belhadj has signed his much awaited permanent contract from Lens.

I think that about sums up the break in THE POMPEY PAGES, but posts will start again so keep an eye on posts.
